Spotlight on Eastern Homebrew

Eastern Homebrew Supply

Homebrewers are a hungry lot…hungry for pretzels, pizza, but mostly, hungry for knowledge. In our digital age, there are so many resources for them to learn about the craft, whether it is YouTube videos, podcast or live streams. But, to me, nothing is better than talking to other brewers, exchanging ideas, techniques and experiences.

That is the atmosphere that Guy Corrado wanted to create when he opened Eastern Homebrew in 2015. “I wanted to give people a place to come, talk about brewing and learn how to brew a quality product.” Guy started home brewing about 15 years ago, focusing on wine and then gravitating to home brew kits he purchased off the internet.

He retired from corporate sales and after finishing projects at home and watching the grandkids, asked himself “Ok what’s next”. So Guy took his growing love of brewing and started working at Tap It a home brew shop in Egg Harbor City. He worked there 8 months and when the shop closed, Guy discovered his “what’s next?” and decided to fill the void by opening Eastern Homebrew.

Mentoring

“Obi-Wan” Corrado is known as a mentor to many brewers but even he was a padawan at one point and credits Brian Hink, former Head Brewer and current Director of Innovation at Cape May Brewing Company as his original mentor. “I learned a lot from Brian, like how to put together an all grain kit for the stove top, as well as other tips and hints on the brew process.”

Guy has built great relationships with local brewers and while has mentored many of them, he has also learned a lot from the brewing talent that comes into his shop. “I meet a lot of home brewers here at the shop and I am like a bee… I pollinate and share what I hear from them.” As one who has benefitted from that pollination, thank you Guy for being a source and conduit for homebrewers throughout South Jersey!

Eastern Homebrew is a sponsor of South Jersey Beer Scene, Vic’s Basement Brewcast and our Homebrew Harvest Competition.
