Cape May Brewing Company Holds a
Food Drive Fund Drive
Cape May, NJ — As part of their commitment to being a good neighbor, Cape May Brewing Company is holding a special event on Thursday, December 14th. To raise funds for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Cape May Brewing Company is holding their first Food Drive Fund Drive.
“Childhood hunger is an epidemic in our state,” says Cape May Brewing Company CEO and co-founder Ryan Krill, “and we wanted to do more than simply collect food or cut a check. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey for our annual Food Drive, and we’re doing what we can to raise as much money as possible for them.”
Cape May Brewing Co. will be assembling a mini-grocery store in their Tasting Room from noon to 8pm. There, visitors will have the ability to purchase the items for whatever price they deem appropriate and donate the item to Cape May Brewing Co.’s Food Drive, running until December 18th. For each donation, visitors will receive one 4our-ounce tasting of their choice. At the end of the evening, the monies raised will be donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
“Cape May County has the highest percent of childhood food insecurity with 19.8% of Cape May children not knowing where their nutritious meal is coming from,” says Richard Uniacke, VP of Southern Branch, The Community FoodBank of NJ. “While these families struggle all year long, during the holidays, we make a tremendous push to ensure that each and every child has a wonderful holiday meal on their table.”
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey works with volunteers, donors, and multiple partners throughout the state “to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with Food, Help, and Hope.” They are committed to fighting hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions.
The Community FoodBank partners with over 300 agencies in Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties distributing over 10 million pounds of food in South Jersey alone. The nearest food pantry in Egg Harbor Township has increased their distribution by more than 230% since July of this year, with the Southern Branch of the Community FoodBank serving 400 more families than they did at this time last year. Distributing over 400 turkeys this Thanksgiving season, the FoodBank is on track to distribute 14 million pounds of food this year.
However, Cape May Brewing Co. realizes that the Community FoodBank needs more than food — like any business, they need income to pay their bills and increase awareness. With every $1 donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, they are able to create $8 worth of food, distributed to hungry families throughout our area.
